Another site is the staircase next to the Duomo of Siena, Catherine Benincasa that traveled to reach the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala: a cross carved in one of the last steps indicates the point where Santa Cateirna fell. It is indeed a steep and slippery stairs, especially when it rains, but according to legend, St Catherine fell for it was encouraged by the devil, or because they had seen the devil at the window overlooking the Cathedral of the stairs at that point. In the fall, the Santa lost all his teeth and each tooth broke the marble of the steps, you can still see some small patches along the staircase, and represent the places where they fell teeth.
